Invertebrate Surfaces Assessment

Description:
Presence or absence of different surface (i.e. invert habitat)
Originator:
Natural England - David Heaver (David.Heaver@naturalengland.org.uk)
Is this an existing or new approach to measuring landscape change?:
New
Aspect of landscape:
Spatial coverage:
Everywhere
Geographical unit:
Single Location
Frequency of measure:
Annual
Indicator:
Presence of different surfaces e.g. For a river (benthic layer, herb layer, water column layer, low emergent layer, high emergent layer)
Barriers:
Not well known. New methodology created by Natural England to undertake condition assessments for Invertebrate assemblages. However is a quick, relatively easy way to undertake an assessment of invertebrate habitat and suggested health of population.
Resource requirements:
None required as far I know. Just training on the methodology.
Establishment cost:
Low (existing resources)
Ongoing operational cost:
low
Ongoing reporting cost:
low
Data source:
Through Recording forms. Essentially presence and absence.
