Countryscape has developed an interactive map for GMG Regional Digital, a subsidiary of the Guardian Media Group. The application has been custom-made for Manchester Online (the website of the Manchester Evening News), aiming to provide visitors with an innovative and engaging means of exploring the city. Users are able to move freely around the map and access information by clicking on map features.
The map has also been designed so that it can be customised in-house, enabling the client to produce a range of different maps from a single application. In this case, website editors are able to add, remove and reposition map features; create links to news stories and reviews; plot routes and produce maps based upon different themes - such as hotels, restaurants, shops, sports facilities, theatres and cinemas, etc. The map is linked to the Manchester Online content management system, allowing for easy update of all text, images and sponsors’ logos.
